National Junior Honor Society Criteria for Selection
The Parkside Middle School National Junior Honor Society sets the following criteria for selection. These criteria are contained in Prince William County Public Schools Regulation 664-4.
- Selection procedures are to be published yearly in appropriate school publications to ensure that all students are aware of the criteria and selection procedures for the National Junior Honor Society.
- The student must have earned a cumulative seventh or eighth grade-point average of 3.5 (non-rounded) at the end of the third nine week period of the school year and must have been in attendance at the school the equivalent of one semester. Grades received in the 6th grade are not to be included in the cumulative GPA. In extenuation circumstances, the semester rule may be waved by the faculty council.
- The students must receive an overall faculty rating average of 3.0 (non-rounded on character, leadership, service, and citizenship based on a four-point scale.
- The teachers will rate the student using the criteria and forward the evaluation directly to the faculty council.
- After the faculty council has made the decision and prior to publication, the list of those recommended and those not recommended for induction will be forwarded to the building principal for his/her approval. Upon final approval by the principal, students selected for membership and those not selected for membership will be notified in writing.
- Students recommended and approved for induction into the National Junior Honor Society will be inducted in the spring of each year. Regardless of when the student is selected, he/she is expected to fulfill all obligations related to membership in the National Junior Honor Society. A student who does not fulfill such obligations may be removed from membership in accordance with National Junior Honor Society rules and regulations.
