What languages are taught?

When may a student enter the program?

What will students in the program study?
Students complete the textbook for French and Spanish Level I divided over 6th and 7th grade and PWCS curriculum for Level II in 8th grade. Level II the same curriculum taught in high school, while Levels 1A and 1B go beyond the required curriculum to complete the textbook. This leaves the students better prepared for Level II.
Are these courses offered for high school credit?
Yes, students in the specialty program will earn their first Carnegie Unit of Credit upon successful completion of French/Spanish 1B and earn their second Carnegie Unit of Credit upon successful completion of French/Spanish II.
Is there anything else I should know about my student’s schedule?
Yes, he/she will not beplaced in an Exploratory Arts Rotation (i.e, Arts, Tech Ed, FACS) and will take French/Spanish in its place.
What is the application process?
All students who wish to attend the program must submit an application, even if they are already scheduled to attend Parkside. Transfer students must also submit a transfer form and an express bus form. All forms are due by February 13th at 4PM or post marked by February 13th of the prior school year. What is the attendance area for the Parkside Specialty Program?
Students within the attendance boundaries of Bull Run, Gainesville, Marsteller, Parkside, and Stonewall Middle Schools are eligible to attend the Parkside World Languages Program. Students who attend Benton who are assigned to Brentsville or Osbourn Park attendance areas are also eligible.
